Hadis Heading Off

Di & I have know Hadis since 2021 and been involved in her training programme since 2023, now being based in Spain with access to a daily training group & onsite coaching it seemed an obvious choice for Hadis to refresh her coaching support.

What a season this has been.

Hadis moved from Iran to Spain to study for her Masters degree and had all the challenges that comes with getting used to the language & culture of a new Country, as well as trying to find training partners and places to train.

We started the season looking to target the Asian Games & FISU competitions but that was quickly changed when we were told that because Hadis was no longer in Iran, she would not be selected for the Asian Games, despite being the highest ranked Iranian female. It transpired that IRI did not send any female to the Asian Games or any athlete to FISU.

Thankfully there were plenty of racing opportunities in Spain for Hadis.

19th April Triatlon Marina de las Salinas, a local race to Hadis she came home as 3rd in her AG and 10th overall. This was only her fourth sprint triathlon and her first race in about six months. There were a few challenges to overcome, she had to borrow a wetsuit and the gears on her bike locked out…

2nd May saw Hadis head to Tri Fuentealamo which was the Spanish Championships and qualification event, As you would expect the quality of field was fierce with almost all of the Top 10 having experience of racing on the WTCS. This was definitely a race to focus on progressing the process rather than looking at positioning.

Hadis was obviously trying to fit in her training & racing alongside her studying and exams, the challenge of being a dual career athlete, so sometimes it was easier to do single discipline events.

24th May saw Hadis set a PB in a local 5km road race. Before on the 14th June she was back to triathlon racing a Mixed Team Relay event at Ciudad de Yecla where she was part of the winning team.

On the 28th June she challenged herself in a 1500m open water non wetsuit race, coming 2nd.

Study & exams kicked in and it was back to training mode before heading out to competitions in August.

13th August saw Hadis take 1st place at an Aquathlon before running a 10km road race on the 29th and clicking off another PB.

As the season was heading towards the World Championships Hadis was invited to attended the World Triathlon Gala Dinner and Hall of Fame ceremony in Pontevedra.

The last three years as part of Hadis’ support team have seen changes, challenges & comedy, we have shared frustrations, tears and laughter. It has been a privilege to have been a small part of her journey & adventures and Di & I cannot wait to catch up with her to hear what happened next…
