Profile: BRYCE DYER
.
The Basics
Born May 19th 1975 (and on time !)
Started Triathlon Sept 2002
First Race Wimborne. It wasn’t pretty, I thought I was flash by using gels but I soon literally ended up with it on my face.
What made you enter I needed a new sport to be obsessive about.
When was your first race win Multisport wise it was the Hillraiser Duathlon in ’04 although I’ve won bits and pieces in sailing, cycling, and surf lifesaving.
How do you explain your first win I knew I had the potential to do it on that given day but I needed to eliminate the chances of losing and a bit of luck.
Best Race Excuse Used (by who) Too many to list. So many in fact I can fill an annual e-mail with 10 at least.
At school I was Enthusiastic and loud
Did your disruptive school life have an effect on your education No, but my claim to fame at school was when I was removed from a debate with our local MP when it was deemed that I was ‘asking difficult questions that he couldn’t answer’.
.
Favourites & Ideals
Fav training session Big, BIG Hills with a bike.
Best imagined session 9-up team time trial racing along a rain soaked road during the Tour in ’04
What sort of meal would you cook for someone special Anything followed by a lot of alcohol !!!!
If you had any friends to cook for what would you make I do a lethal Mexican and I used to prepare curries at uni that would take your head clean off !
Fav drink Pina Colada or a Bloody Mary depending on my mood
Fav TV prog Currently LA Law or ‘Superstars’
Fav film Crimson Tide, A Few Good Men, Stakeout
Who makes you laugh Eddie Izzard, Dave Allen, Jasper Carrot
.
First's & Last's
First record bought Grey Day’ by Madness
Last record bought Lots generally. Probably ‘The Thrill of it All’ by Thunder plus that dodgy 80’s rehash of ‘Out of Touch’.
.
General
What kind of books do you like to read Sports Bios these days and anything bike related.
Which newspaper do you read Not enough pictures for me but I probably get every tri/cycling mag on the shelf every month.
Ideal holiday destination The Maldives
If you were allowed out where would you go The Sandacres pub down at Sandbanks. That place has seen some real hellraising at times…..
If not a triathlete what would u like to be A cyclist with the talent of Ullrich, the psyche of Armstrong, the professionalism of Zabel, and the style of Cipollini.
How do u relax Reading comic books and eating bombay mix.
How do they get you to relax By letting me get it all out of my system, throw a few drinks bottles, and then get back to work.
Hobbies Racing, partying, racing, more racing, some bike worshiping followed by racing

Characteristics
Who or what would be put in room 101 Bike drafters.
Happiness is... Me, a bag of Bombay mix, some ironman racing or cycling on TV, and a pile of magazines to work through.
Happiness is...(2) Me, 6 select friends, no reason to get up in the morning, and no rules or morals.
Greatest fear Selling myself short. I’d like to think when I eventually book out I maxed it all the way to the finish.
Do you ever get frightened I’ve had a few hairy descents on bikes when I was naďve about component choices. I had 4 major incidents last year plus a big crash and it took a pink Barbie bike bell (courtesy of my coach) to get it all back together. Worked though……..
Who is your hero Lance obviously. Followed swiftly by Chris Boardman. He succeeded with a lot less talent than some but instead had 100% attention to detail and commitment and excelled anyway.
Can you think of anyone apart from yourself that has or could inspire you My Dad proves that it ain’t all over until the fat lady sings, is shot, and then hung. You can always squeeze a little bit more out of life and he’s still arse kicking and taking names in his late 50’s
Your most unpleasant characteristic I’m selfish……..but there’s a positive in every negative !
Do you have any good points I’m focused and I’ve never quit a race in any sport in any conditions. The only time I ever had to stop was in the Salisbury 10 in 2003 when I blew a calf and I still walked the 6 miles back to the car rather than get in someone else’s wagon. When Ironman eventually comes (and it will), I’ll have at least 30 years of not quitting to count on. The harder it is the greater my motivation.
Characteristic most disliked in others Disloyalty
Do you know anyone as bad as you No……….…and that’s my edge.
You have a rotten tomato - who gets it The next guy in front of me in a race.
You have a rotten tomato - who gets it (2) ……the guy in front of him.
Who would you most like to meet Lance Armstrong.
When was the last time you cried I think we all witnessed the bottle throwing tantrum at Winchester tri in ’03…………..
Four words to describe yourself Bouyant, tenacious, intense, uncompromising.
